The novel describes a college student, Raskolnikov, who was forced to drop out of the law department due to poverty and struggled to survive on the financial support of his mother and sister. He arrogantly thought he could act as a judge in this dark reality, so he killed a social pest - the loan shark pawnshop owner, and in panic, he killed the other's sister. After committing this murder, he was in an extremely painful conflict and could not shake off his fear. He tried to convince himself that killing the man was just and a great effort for his ideals, but he could not calm his conscience. In the end, inspired by the prostitute Sonia, he chose to surrender to the police and was sentenced to eight years of exile in Siberia. Soon Sonia also arrived there, the two began to fall in love, and Raskolnikov was reborn. "Crime and Punishment" is not only Dostoevsky's masterpiece, but also represents the highest level of Russian literature.
