Books of Kings
Literature列王纪选
(persia) Ferdowsi
The book "Kings" describes the rise and fall of the dynasties from the creation of the world to the destruction of the Persian Empire by the Arabs in 651 AD. The time span spans more than 4,600 years. "Kings" is divided into three parts: first, myths and legends, second, warrior stories, and third, historical stories. The story of warriors accounts for about half of the book, and is also a wonderful chapter in "Kings". The "Four Tragedies" stories in this book "Kings" are selected from this part, telling the tragic stories of four ancient Persian noble youths. The four tragic protagonists, Iraj, Suhrab, Shawash and Esfandiyar, are all ancient Persian aristocratic young men. The stories all revolve around the theme of fighting for kingship. The four young men all died at the hands of their relatives. These tragic stories are the main value of this epic and reflect the author's greatness.
