When All Wishes Come True: to Be Free, to Die
General Fiction当所有愿望实现:以自由,以死亡
(o) Thomas Gravinich
The novel opens with the classic "wish fulfillment" plot pattern in fairy tales, telling a modern story and exploring the themes of human desire and the meaning of life. The protagonist Jonas is a middle-aged man trapped in a mediocre life. His dull wife and two lovely sons are his comfort, but they are also an unspeakable burden. Especially after meeting his lover Mary, his inner desire becomes more and more turbulent. One day he met a stranger in the park who forcibly promised to grant Jonas three wishes. The rest of his life seemed to follow the rules, but some incredible events happened one after another: he witnessed many deaths with his own eyes, and even managed to avoid an air crash; when he went out with insomnia at night, he always saw many mysterious and surreal scenes; what was even more amazing was that his wife died of a heart attack, and her lover's husband did not say goodbye. Jonas was completely free, but the pain always lingered around him, forcing him step by step to torture the truth of life.
