What kind of historical figure is Chunshenjun Huang Xie (? - 238 BC), who has been widely circulated as a flood control hero in the Taihu Lake Basin since ancient times? How do his deeds, relics and inheritance relate to Shanghai's current urban construction? Through comprehensive combing and on-site investigation of oral traditions, texts and relics centered on Chun Shenjun, the author explores why the legend of Chun Shen Jun's flood control was generated, inherited and evolved in this region, how the historical Chu Prime Minister Chun Shen Jun became the leader of water control, and how the legend of Chun Shen Jun was resourced in contemporary Shanghai's urban life, revealing the space for legend inheritance, genealogy and its relationship with local identity. Through analysis and argumentation, the author points out that local residents established temples to worship Chun Shenjun as the god of "fighting away floods", which is inseparable from the local nature of frequent disasters such as floods and droughts. The belief also contributed to the spread and inheritance of Chun Shenjun's legend and became an important cultural resource for urban construction.
