This book contains five works including "Narayama Setkao". Among them, the film "Narayama Setkao" adapted from "Narayama Setkao" and "The Warriors of the Northeast" won the Palme d'Or at the 36th Cannes Film Festival. In a small village deep in the mountains of Shinshu, Japan, a tradition of abandoning the elderly has been inherited due to extreme poverty: as long as the elderly live to the age of seventy, they will be carried to Narayama by their eldest son and abandoned. The locals call it worshiping the Narayama God. Although A Ling was about to turn seventy, her body was still very strong. She was worried that outsiders would see her as a "weird" and a "superfluous person" who did not go to Narashan to eat more food when she was old, so she made up her mind to go to the mountain on New Year's Day when she turned 70. In order to show that she was useless, she even used stones to knock out her strong front teeth.
