From the "discovery of the century" to the "scandal recorded in the history of science", the "STAP cell incident", one of the three major scientific research scandals of the 20th century, alongside the Schön incident and the Hwang Woo-suk incident, is fully revealed. Won the Soichi Otaku Nonfiction Award and the Science Journalist Award. STAP Cell incidents can never be attributed to a specific person. Problems arose at all stages, including the way the experiments were carried out, the discussions in the laboratory, the way the results were published, the handling of suspicions of fraud, and even the education received by the first author in graduate school. At some point before the paper was published, someone should have been aware of the possibility of serious scientific misconduct, which could have been prevented. ... In this context where many opportunities that should have been wasted, I think there are certain structural problems lurking that are eroding the front line of scientific research in Japan. --Excerpted from the postscript of the library edition of this book
