Selected Essays on Edogawa Ranpo
Literature江户川乱步随笔选
(japan) Edogawa Rampo
This anthology contains a total of 36 essays, some recounting past events, some talking about old friends, or some expressing personal opinions, showing a different kind of chaos hidden behind the confusing, magical and magnificent detective novels. Perhaps there are many novelists who are warriors fighting for humanity, and there are also many novelists who are artists who seek to please readers and make money. But this kind of utilitarian view that is close to reality seems to me to be shallow and false. Any novelist will embark on this path, more or less, because he cannot become a city lord in the real world, but is qualified to be a phantom city lord. This is probably more important than any fame and fortune. (Excerpted from "Phantom City Lord")

(japan) Edogawa Rampo
The "Edogawa Ranpo Classic Mystery Novels Collection" series contains 3-4 wonderful, independent mystery stories in each volume. This volume includes the classic work "The Human Chair" that has been adapted into movies many times, as well as Kogoro Akechi's debut works "Black Lizard" and "Kage Man". Edogawa Ranpo's works draw on a wide range of materials and have unique conceptions. Sometimes they are realistic, and sometimes they are weird and grotesque. But what remains the same is that the storyline is always so confusing and exciting. Edogawa can always use the subtleties to maximize the fear deep in the readers' hearts, making people shudder. This is one of the reasons why even though he was a mystery novelist active in the 20th century, people still hear his name with great fanfare. His character Akechi Kogoro is a well-known detective in Japan.

Yin Beast
General Fiction阴兽
(japan) Edogawa Rampo
"The Yin Beast" is the fourth volume of "Edogawa Ranpo's Collection of Works", which contains four mystery novellas by Edogawa Ranpo. In Ranpo's creative career of more than 40 years, there were only four novellas. "The Yin Beast" is Luan Bu's first work after he stopped writing. The protagonists of the story are two mystery novelists who belong to the original school and the changed school. One is the narrator of the story, "I" Hanchuan, and the other is Oe Chunni. The last protagonist is a beautiful woman, Shizuko. One day Hanchuan met Shizuko in the museum. Afterwards, the two exchanged letters. A few months later, Jingzi was threatened by Chunni and asked "I" for help. Soon after, Rokuro was killed. How did Hanchuan reason, who was the murderer, and who was Oe Chunni? This is a masterpiece of original mystery novels that combines eroticism, strangeness, absurdity (characteristics of Taisho period popular culture) and reasoning. One of Ranpo's masterpieces.
