Dwarves on Dwarf Planet
General Fiction矮人星上的矮人
(italian) Written By Umberto Eco Illustrated By Eugenio Carmi
"The Dwarfs" is a collection of short stories by the famous Italian writer Umberto Eco. Two were completed in 1988 and one was completed in 1992. The author skillfully uses extremely simple yet humorous language to convey his own vigilance to modern civilization and thoughts about the future of mankind to readers of all ages. "The Bomb and the General" is an allegory against atomic war. "Three Astronauts" describes three astronauts from the United States, the Soviet Union and China who originally distrusted each other and had difficulty communicating when they roamed in space. However, they learned about communication, trust and love after meeting Martians. "Dwarves on the Dwarf Planet" tells the story of a conceited king who tried to continuously expand his territory and export what he thought was an advanced modern civilization to an alien planet. Unexpectedly, after discovering the dwarf planet, the explorers he sent wanted to show off human civilization to the dwarf inhabitants, but they were "defeated" due to various unhappy scenes such as pollution and disease observed through the telescope.
