A Small Hotel on an Isolated Island
General Fiction孤岛上的小旅馆
(italian) Federica Brunini
Have you ever seen a hotel like this: It is not recorded in any travel guides, does not advertise in any travel agencies or social media, does not have its own website, can only accommodate up to five people at a time, can only stay for ten days at most, can only stay once in a lifetime, and can only book rooms through handwritten letters. On the first of every month, the Mermaid Hotel on the Mediterranean island of Gozo opens its blue wooden doors and receives five guests from all over the world who have never met each other - for example, a pair of twin sisters with different personalities, a chef facing major changes in his marriage and career, a handsome pilot who has lost his loved ones, and a reporter who comes to solve a certain mystery. Tamara and Dana are the owners of the hotel. They always say that after moving in, they spend three days crying, three days healing, three days having fun... And one day celebrating. They provide yoga, incense, and juice without residue, but they do not provide directions, strategies, and answers. Everyone who knocks on the door of the hotel must keep silent about what happens on the island and accept unknown risks. There is no yesterday or tomorrow here, only endless today, only now, and only the next moment.
