(french) Written By Maupassant Illustrated By Jean-emile Laboule
"Beautiful Friend" is the second novel written by French writer Maupassant and also his masterpiece. The work tells the story of the male protagonist Duroy, who was born in the civilian class and later moved to Paris after being discharged from the army. He got the opportunity to work as a reporter in a newspaper from a comrade he met by chance. But he was ambitious and unsatisfied. He also designed to leave Madeleine and became the son-in-law of the newspaper owner, and suddenly became the editor-in-chief of the newspaper. At the end of the novel, it is hinted that this amoral careerist "beautiful friend" will have a bright future. This book adopts the classic translation of Mr. Xu Hejin, the translator of "In Search of Lost Time", with more than 50 illustrations painted by French printmaker Jean-Emile Laboule, and exclusively includes a 5,000-word preface by French critic Rene Dumenil, telling the anecdotes behind Maupassant's creation of "Beautiful Friend".
