The full name is "The Biography of Gil Blas de Santiana", which is a famous French picaresque novel. The novel was published in three installments (1715, 1724, 1735). In 1715, when the first part was published, King Louis XIV, the longest reigning king in French history, passed away, which was the dividing line between the two eras. The novel narrates the rough life experience of Gil Blas. Through the image of Gil Blas, the writer tries to illustrate that in a feudal society full of caste prejudice, if a person comes from a humble background, even if he has skills, he will not be valued and can only be at the bottom of society.
