"The Watch of Sangomar" is a novel by the emerging French African-American female writer: Fatou Diome. Kumba is a woman who suffered the loss of her husband. A shipwreck takes the life of her lover, and the life she once relied on falls apart. Kumba needs to make a choice between remarriage and self-reliance. Kumba, immersed in grief, was determined to record his memories, but unexpectedly discovered that he could communicate with his late husband through writing. So, whenever night fell, she used writing to summon the dead and break free from the shackles of reality. Writing allows Kumba to escape from the boring daily life. She understands that if she wants to be free, she must defend her life.
