Denis Diderot (1713-1784) was a French Enlightenment thinker, dialectical materialist philosopher, and representative of the "Encyclopedia School". Because of his influence on later generations, he is also known as the founder of contemporary European novels. He has written many works, among which "The Nephew of Rameau" was praised by Engels as "a masterpiece of dialectics", and "Jacques the Fatalist and His Master" was praised by Milan Kundera as "the highest achievement of the novel art in the eighteenth century".
