Voyage in the Qing Empire: the Qianlong Era in British Eyes

(english) Ennis Anderson

This book is a record of the British mission to China during their visit to China from September 1792 to September 1794 and on their way back and forth. The author gives a relatively faithful account of the public activities of the envoys, which reflects the international situation and China's social conditions at that time from one aspect. He also wrote about the eating habits of the Chinese people, the palaces of the Old Summer Palace, and the conditions of the Great Wall. He also described the various feelings of the members of the mission when they stayed in the Qing court, and his writing was full of strange emotions. Among them, the description of the humanities and palace life in China in the 18th century and the comparative observation of the different customs of the two countries are particularly valuable for research and reference.
