Medieval Cities (chinese Translation of World Academic Masterpieces Series)

(better Than) Pirena

100K0

This book is an important medieval urban history work by Belgian historian Henri Pirena. First published in English in the United States in 1925. The origin of medieval cities attracted great attention from Western historians in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and many theories were proposed: such as "Roman City Theory", "Hereditary Territory Theory", "Mark Theory", "Castle Theory" and "Market Theory". Henri Pirenne combined the "castle theory" with the "market theory" and believed that cities were settlements where merchants gathered around fortified locations - towns and castles - to establish a family, which was quite influential.
