"Migratory Birds" tells the story of an older generation Chinese immigrant, Luo Yunshan, who was panning for gold in an Australian gold mine, and the life of his descendant Seamus Ouyang in contemporary cities. The protagonists of "Haunting China" are Chinese architect You Bowen who came to Australia and European-Australian female writer Louise. The two people with very different cultural backgrounds fall in love, which reflects Castro's belief that culture will eventually bridge the differences and move towards integration.
