"History", also known as "History of the Greco-Persian Wars", was written approximately during the period when Herodotus lived in Samos. The manuscript was not completed during his lifetime. Later, annotators in Alexandria organized the whole book into nine volumes, each of which was named after a goddess of literature and art. This layout and volume division method are still used today.
