The Legend of Mi Yue 芈月传
A story excavated alongside the Terracotta Army. When the Terracotta Army began digging its third pit, I joined them in digging, too. The complete print edition of The Legend of Mi Yue is now available at Dangdang. My new novel, The Yanyuntai, is currently being serialized. A word about the story: It is still about the love and resentment between three sisters, and a childhood sweetheart who is a warm-hearted hero, with an emperor trying to win the heroine's love. But it is not another The Lege

Phoenix Rules the Nine Heavens: The Female Protagonist of the Great Song Dynasty (Volume One) 凤霸九天——大宋女主（上卷）
Why write about this era? This era emerged from the chaos of warlords, weathered changes in succession, and finally found stability. The country gradually settled down and prospered, and ordinary people began to live and work in peace. But at the same time, another powerful kingdom rose up, seeking independence with the support of forces opposed to the established kingdom. History offers lessons about gains and losses. But this era also has countless legends passed down in people’s hearts: Zhao

The Terrace of Yan and Yun 燕云台
It's still a tale of love and rivalry between three sisters, still a story about a childhood sweetheart and a warm-hearted man, and an emperor who steals her away. But it's not another Legend of Mi Yue. It's the opposite kind of story. The heroine doesn't have a hard childhood; she's been cherished from the start. She has an all-powerful older sister to protect her, and her childhood sweetheart stays by her side for life. They only love each other, never turn against each other. The emperor neve

Iron and Rouge: The Bloodshed and Lust of Western Xia's Founding (Part Two) 铁血胭脂——西夏开国的血腥与欲孽（下部）
Important announcement: I'm back, and the story is resuming. This time I'll keep updating until it's finished, and it will be free. Aren't you happy? Excited? At last, one of those “I'll finish it in this lifetime” stories can be completed. Updates Monday through Friday. I take weekends off to work on other things. Important announcement: I want to apologize to everyone. When I was writing Iron-Blooded Rouge last year, my health deteriorated and I had to stop updating. I've tried hard to get ba

The Death of Daji 妲己之死
She was not born to be King Zhou's consort, nor was she possessed by a fox. The real Daji was once just an innocent young woman, capable of sincere love and devotion. When beauty is imprisoned by power, when love is stained with blood, Daji is no longer the Daji she once was. (Notice: This story is temporarily locked. There’s always a reason for locking a post. I’ll explain it to everyone in a while. Thank you for your support, and please keep supporting me.) Theme:

Shangguan Wan’er: I Witnessed the World of Women 上官婉儿——我见证了女人天下
The year I was born was also the year my grandfather, Shangguan Yi, was executed by Empress Wu Zetian. The fall of the Shangguan clan came after the men of the entire Tang Empire made one final, failed attempt to overthrow her and crush the forces resisting her. From then on, the Tang entered an era ruled by women. Then came today, when A Wei and I would die on the same day. Prince of Linzi Li Longji ascended to the pinnacle of power, ushering in the Kaiyuan Golden Age, the most prosperous era i

A New Account of the Tales of the World: Gossip Weekly of the Northern and Southern Dynasties 世说新语——南北朝的八卦周刊
I've always thought that A New Account of the Tales of the World is basically a gossip magazine from the Northern and Southern Dynasties, something Liu Yiqing and his household of hangers-on put together after meals when they had nothing better to do: So-and-so isn't as good-looking as so-and-so; so-and-so is rumored to be having an affair with so-and-so; so-and-so got into another huge argument with so-and-so...that sort of thing. Men love gossiping about women, but they don't realize that when

A Thousand Words on a Wordless Stele: Wu Zetian of Tang 无字碑上书千言——唐武则天
Sometimes we can’t look at reigning women through the eyes of women, assuming that sacrificing family ties and love makes them tragic figures, or that failing to be good wives and mothers is a regret that leaves even their successes wanting. No. Women who enter politics must be judged through politics, not analyzed through motherhood. We should examine them through the art of imperial rule. If you consider Wu Zetian an emperor, you won’t find her actions particularly astonishing. Were Qin Shi Hu

Lady Huarui 花蕊夫人
"The king raised the surrender flag atop the city walls. How could I, his concubine in the deep palace, have known? One hundred and forty thousand men all laid down their armor. Was there not a single man among them?" People have always said that beautiful women bring about the fall of kingdoms. Yet throughout the ages, only this one imperial concubine questioned the world of men and the merits and failings of emperors. Theme:

They Were One Step Away from the Throne 他们离帝位只差一步
Stories of the crown princes through the ages I plan to write about Fusu, Liu Ju, Xiao Tong, Yang Yong, Li Jiancheng, Yelü Bei, Zhenjin, Zhu Biao, Yinzhen, and others. Updates are unpredictable: I’ll finish one before starting the next, and who knows when that will be. This is a bottomless pit, so beware.

A Life of Joy: Xiao Chuo, Empress Dowager of the Liao Dynasty 快意人生——辽承天皇太后萧绰
There have been countless empress dowagers surnamed Xiao throughout Liao history. The full title of this series is Women Rule the World: Empress Dowagers Who Governed China. It covers ten empress dowagers in all. The Humble Bird Arrives at the End of the World: Qing Cixi 凡鸟偏从末世来——清慈禧
All the jewels she had carefully set aside in life to enjoy after death were plundered. Her body, once supreme and untouchable, was now stripped bare, like a piece of withered wood. Cast aside in a corner as refuse, trampled by marauding soldiers, it rotted with maggots and crumbled to dust, blown away by the wind. Just like her name. Just like her kingdom. Premise:

Buddhism, Daoism, Zen, and a Strange Monk 说佛道禅论奇僧
I became interested in Monk Manshu and Master Hongyi, and originally wanted to write about these two famous monks. So I read a number of books on the history of the Chan and Vinaya schools of Buddhism. Then I found myself fascinated by these little historical anecdotes from Buddhism. In the end, I realized that the historical backgrounds and events I'd written about were all accurate, so why... had it turned into a ridiculous parody?! Ahem, devout Buddhists, please don't read this. And if you do

Meng Lijun (A Second Chance at Life) 孟丽君（再生缘）
Adapted from Chen Duansheng's long narrative ballad Rebirth. There are only three books I've reread over and over in my life: A New Account of the Tales of the World, Dream of the Red Chamber, and Rebirth. Not ranked in any particular order. Not many people have read Chen Duansheng's ballad, but I was fascinated by it as a teenager. Like A New Account of the Tales of the World, I've always wanted to adapt it into a novel in modern language, so more people could enjoy it. But the more I love it,
