"One Leaf Knows Autumn" is a BL redemption novel purely about campus love. It tells the tender story of the introverted poet Ye Zhi and the sunshine school girl Cheng Qiu who first met and fell in love. The full text takes falling leaves and autumn as the core of the imagery, and develops a two-way redemption around "You are the leaf that caught me when I fell, and you are also the only autumn in my decaying life."
Ye Zhi, a sophomore in high school, has closed himself off due to bullying in junior high school. He is used to hiding in the library and writing poems. He cannot use his right hand flexibly due to post-traumatic stress disorder. Cheng Qiu, the president of the student union in his senior year of high school, looks perfect on the surface, but in fact he has suppressed his true emotions for a long time and has a tendency to self-destruct in private. The two met for the first time in the library. Cheng Qiu picked up Ye Zhi's poem "I am a rotten leaf" and began to pay attention to him silently.
The main line of the story focuses on the heartbeat and redemption in daily interactions: After Cheng Qiu discovers Ye Zhi's claustrophobia, he uses his school uniform jacket to isolate him from fear; Ye Zhi puts hand-painted fallen leaves on Cheng Qiu's desk every day, and Cheng Qiu gives ginkgo leaves in return and writes a secret confession; after the basketball game, Cheng Qiu walked through the crowd and mouthed "Did you see it" to Ye Zhi, and Ye Zhi heard Cheng Qiu reciting his poem in public at the graduation party.
The full text rejects clichés. There are no family obstructions, love triangles or forced misunderstandings. There are only delicate throbbings of youth - the mints shared when hiding from the rain on the rooftop, the folded hands in the piano room, and the fallen leaves mailed every day during a long-distance relationship. In the end, Ye Zhi learned to draw again with his right hand, and Cheng Qiu also broke free from the shackles of "perfect personality", and the two healed each other in the eternal autumn.
