The world is dying.
The magical "source" that injects vitality into all things is becoming thin and dirty. The earth is withering, the stars are out of order, and a once glorious world is irreversibly sliding into the abyss of death. The aloof Aurelian Holy See claims that this is God's punishment for the sins of the world, and uses its sharpest sword, the Inquisitor, to implement an increasingly harsh iron-fisted rule on the continent, labeling all doubters as "withering heretics."
Evelyn Valerian is the youngest and most pious inquisitor of the Holy See. She is the incarnation of the law that has been forged into shape, and she firmly believes that what she does is the only right way to save the world. Her mission is to hunt down a top heretic codenamed "Liana" - a mysterious woman who spreads doomsday rumors everywhere and is said to be able to make dead trees bloom.
Lianna is a ghost in the papal archives. She is as elusive as the wind and can read the dying cries of the earth. She knows the real reason for the decline of the world: it is not divine punishment, but that an ancient god who is the cornerstone of the world is falling into eternal death, and his broken dreams are seeping into reality and turning into disasters.
A chase that took place in the Dead Swamp and an accident that subverted faith forced these old enemies to go together. They will travel through the disintegrated empire and explore the truth between the temple built of lies and the forgotten ruins of the ancient gods. Evelin witnessed the hypocrisy and cruelty of her own beliefs during the journey, and under Lianna's cynical mask, the heaviness and loneliness of carrying the world's secrets alone gradually emerged.
Purpose: True salvation does not come from gods or dogmas, but from understanding, connection and love between people.
