Ling Mo's life is like a long disguise.
From the day I was diagnosed with Omega, my childhood bullying became a scar engraved on my bones. He wore studded earrings, dyed his hair with bold highlights, wrapped himself in silence and gloom, and pretended to be an Alpha who was not easy to mess with - only in this way could he live safer in the crowded crowd.
Hidden in this disguise is a more intimate secret: He has liked Jiang Xu for three years.
The Alpha who "saved" him on the rainy day in the third grade of junior high school was the only light in his gloomy youth that he dared to reach out and touch. He got up early every day, bought breakfast, and waited at the door of the classroom. He responded to each other's instructions with awkward silence, hiding his Omega glands and raging heartbeat, thinking that as long as he was close enough, he could warm up the seemingly gentle kindness.
Until the truth came down like an ice pick: that "redemption" was a gamble, and the breakfast he had handed over for three years was all thrown away. Under the other person's gentle mask, there was a frivolous play on Omega and a mockery of his "Alpha" dependence.
At the moment when the disguise was torn apart, and in the pain of uncontrollable pheromones, Ling Mo tasted complete despair for the first time. He thought he would be trapped in this scam and self-denial forever, but at the most embarrassing moment, he caught another look.
Yan Xun stood in the shadow of the rooftop, holding an unlit cigarette between his fingertips, watching him huddled in the corner shivering, his eyes red like a cat soaked in the rain. Later, Ling Mo learned that this Alpha, who always wore a black hoodie and looked colder than him, would hand him a clean barrier patch when his inhibitor expired, would say "get out" in a low voice when he was surrounded by Jiang Xu's friends, and would put hot milk into his hand when he was staring at the breakfast shop again: "Don't buy it, I'm not hungry."
It turned out that someone saw through his disguise, but did not expose it; someone knew that he was an Omega, and there was no contempt in their eyes, only cautious concern.
Those three years of being let down were like old clothes that were finally taken off. When Ling Mo was next to Yan Xun, it was the first time he dared to let the pheromones drift away timidly, the first time he dared to say "I'm afraid", and the first time he discovered: true love never requires standing on tiptoes to look up, but someone will bend down and stand at the same height with you.
