"Karl?"
A gentle voice brought him back to reality. He looked up and saw that it was Jacques.
"Are you okay? Is the food in the restaurant not to your liking?"
Karl shook his head quickly and denied: "No, no, I forgot something at home. I am always careless."
Jacques seemed interested in this and asked: "What is it?"
Karl said: "It's a necklace that I have worn since I was born."
"Is that so?" Jacques walked to the table, lit the candle on the table, rummaged through the drawer to find something, pinched it with two fingers, and asked Karl, "Is this what you are talking about?"
A pearl with traces of fire was threaded on a string and swayed gently in Jacques's hand.
"Why are you there?" Karl stepped forward in surprise and took the lost necklace, if this simple thing could be called a necklace.
"You probably dropped it accidentally, and I picked it up on the edge of the seat." Jacques said, "Who gave it to you?"
Karl thought for a moment and said, "I don't know, I've been carrying it since I was a child."
"That should be very meaningful to you." Jacques smiled, his clean face showing a little warmth under the candlelight, and his blue eyes shining like clean water.
