In Suzhou in 1935, the lady Shen Jingshu and the architect Meng Qingyuan became friends through books and fell in love in troubled times.
When the Anti-Japanese War broke out, Meng Qingyuan rushed to the battlefield and sent letters every day to comfort his lovesickness. Amidst the smoke of gunfire, the letters never stopped. Shen Jingshu didn't know that the last one was the final letter - before Meng Qingyuan died in battle, she asked her comrades to write it for her, keeping her waiting alive forever.
As time goes by, Shen Jingshu guards the yellowed letter, from black hair to white hair. She didn't know that those words that came through the war were lies that another person spent the rest of his life weaving, just to fulfill her lifelong dream.
"He promised me he would come back."
——As long as the letter is not broken and the love is not extinguished, she can wait until he dies, and she will never forget his name.
