When I was a child, I herded cattle on the mountain behind the village, and I always loved "taking over the mountain as king" on the barren mountain. Stand on the big rock on the top of the mountain and shout to the valley: "I am the king of the mountain!" A wooden stick is a scepter, and a few stones are a castle. There were echoes, as if the whole mountain was responding.
When I grew up, I traveled to famous mountains and rivers, and then I realized that the real "King of the Mountain" is not to dominate the mountain, but to have a dialogue with the mountain. Watch the sea of clouds in Huangshan Mountain, watch the sunrise in Mount Tai, and listen to the wind at Lunjian Peak in Mount Huashan. Each mountain has its own character. I chose this pen name because I wanted to be like the mountain king of words—not condescending, but in dialogue with words, letting the story flow naturally like a mountain stream. When writing, I often think of the big rock on the top of the mountain when I was a child. It was my first "mountain".
Now, although I am in my twilight years, my yearning for freedom has never changed. "King of the mountain" does not mean to dominate, but to remind myself: writing is my mountain, where I can let my imagination run wild and make my own rules. Every story is a new mountain waiting for me to conquer.
