I'm a Tabby Cat, So Why Am I Comforting a Siberian Tiger?

Jiang Ye was reborn as a tabby cat. No owner, free to come and go, a territory stretching farther than the eye could see. He woke each morning on a three-and-a-half-meter stone slab bed, the kind of tabby with a whole gang of underlings, tattoos on his forelegs, and a big-shot attitude. Jiang Ye kept himself sleek and glossy, with a body packed with muscle. When he strutted down the street, he was a fearsome sight. As a smart cat with a plan, Jiang Ye sensibly assigned a different windowsill eatery for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When he got a craving, he would also take on jobs finding lost pet cats for humans, earning a little treat on the side. Though his territory was vast, Jiang Ye especially liked patrolling around the zoo. Not for any particular reason: his main job was at the zoo. He was an internet-famous cat. Until one day, the zoo director tried to bribe Jiang Ye into taking on another part-time job. Panda-special milk in a basin and fresh-meat salad from the tiger enclosure: Jiang Ye had tried both once before and couldn't stop thinking about them. But... Jiang Ye looked at the fierce-eyed Siberian tiger in the cage. His confidently raised tail gradually drooped. It wasn't that he was afraid, of course. What a joke. A tattooed big-shot cat wasn't afraid of even a honey badger! But, well... Jiang Ye glanced at his reflection in the glass. Comfort a Siberian tiger? Him? Jiang Ye tried to refuse. He was an orphan who didn't awaken as a Guide until he was twenty. Before then, he was always hungry, and looked like he hadn't even reached adulthood. Even after awakening as a Guide, Lin Ying couldn't get much in the way of benefits, since he was only F-rank. So for Lin Ying, sleeping was a low-cost, high-value activity. But Lin Ying was troubled. He seemed to dream, but could never remember the details. Every time he woke up, his spirit animal would somehow have strange things hanging from its paws or mouth. Sometimes it was scales, sometimes feathers, and once it was a huge tuft of fur. A really huge tuft. Lin Ying didn't know why, but whenever he held that tuft, guilt kept welling up from deep inside him. Oh, right. Lin Ying's spirit animal was an incredibly adorable silver tabby Maine Coon. Because he'd been malnourished before, something had gone wrong with his spirit animal, leaving the cat with a somewhat short tail. But it was still adorable. Though it kept getting bigger as it ate, Maine Coons were just big cats. Nothing strange about that. The days passed. Then one day, the Federation's nine major powers suddenly issued a joint bounty of nine hundred million Federation credits for a dark Guide with a lynx spirit animal, ranked at least 3S. Apparently, this Guide was not only combat-oriented but also had the ability to steal powers. He had attacked and provoked nine 3S Sentinels, and repeatedly tried to break into the Archon's forbidden sleeping quarters. He was outrageously arrogant and had committed heinous acts, so he had to be sent to the Interstellar Court and severely punished. The entire star region was in an uproar. Nine hundred million Federation credits: who wouldn't be tempted? Holding his spirit animal's enormous head, Lin Ying looked at its catlike face, so similar to a lynx, and joked with a grin: “Tell me, baby, what did you do to those Sentinels?” The big cat with the short tail looked utterly innocent.
