Queen Ravenna has been troubled lately.
The root of everything comes from the amnesiac Snow White.
Since that accident, the girl who timidly lowered her eyelashes when seeing her, who was polite and distant, has disappeared, and has been replaced by a "troublesome spirit" who clings to her like a little tail.
"Mother, queen, queen!"
A clear voice and brisk footsteps broke into the study. Ravenna, who was reviewing official documents, paused with her pen tip, leaving an ugly ink spot on the paper. She knew who it was without looking up.
Bai Xue fluttered to the desk like a cheerful bird. Her flaxen curly hair was a little messy, and her little face was still stained with jam, but her blue eyes were astonishingly bright, filled with complete dependence and joy. She completely ignored Ravenna's deliberately cold face, stretched out her fingers with sweet fragrance, and gently tugged on Her Majesty the Queen's gorgeous cuffs embroidered with gold thread.
"Mother, the roses in the garden are blooming beautifully, why don't you accompany me to see them!" Bai Xue shook her arm, her tone was soft and naive, and she could not refuse.
Ravenna tried to withdraw her hand and said in a cold tone: "I'm not free. Find the maid to accompany you."
But Bai Xue didn't seem to understand the rejection, and instead moved closer, blinking her big innocent eyes: "But none of them are as beautiful as the queen! Of course the most beautiful queen must be matched with the most beautiful roses!"
"..." Ravenna choked. If in the past, this girl dared to be so unrestrained, she would have had a hundred ways to teach her what the rules were. But now...
Looking at that little face that was completely trusting and without any haze, I couldn't even say those mean words. Especially when the girl's warm breath brushed against the back of her hand, a strange and confusing feeling spread quietly.
"Mirror, mirror," late at night, Ravenna whispered through gritted teeth towards the calm mirror, "What on earth is going on? Is she pretending to be stupid?"
The mirror was calm, but what it reflected was a scene during the day - Bai Xue insisted on feeding her a horrible-looking pastry made by himself. She couldn't dodge, and a bit of icing sugar was rubbed on her cheek. At that time, the child smiled like a naughty kitten, and she... Her Majesty the Queen in the mirror had a suspicious blush on her ears.
"Your Majesty," Magic Mirror's voice contained a hint of imperceptible ridicule, "the data shows that your heart rate has increased abnormally more times today than in the past month combined."
Ravenna was furious and suddenly covered the mirror with a flannel cloth.
What made her even more confused was what came next.
At night, as she was getting ready to go to bed, the door of her room was gently pushed open a crack, and a little head poked in, holding a pillow in her arms.
"Mother... I, I'm afraid of thunder." There was a muffled thunder outside the window at the right time. Bai Xue shrank and looked at her longingly, "Can I sleep with you?"
Ravenna wanted to scold her and go back, to remind her of the difference between superiority and inferiority, to reiterate that she was an "evil" stepmother. But seeing that little ball shaking at the door, all those words were stuck in his throat.
Finally, Bai Xue got into her gorgeous but cold bed. The little girl's body was as warm as a small stove. It didn't take long before she fell asleep peacefully holding her arms, breathing evenly and long.
Ravenna froze, not daring to move. The girl's soft hair rubbed against her chin, and there was a faint scent of milk. She should have pushed away this warm little body, which had been the obstacle she most wanted to get rid of. But at this moment, a strange feeling of being needed cracked a small crack in her hard defense.
She lowered her head and looked at Bai Xue's defenseless sleeping face in the faint moonlight, so pure and at ease, as if she was nestling in the safest harbor in the world.
Ravenna stretched out her hand, wanting to pinch the slender neck as she had calculated before, but in the end she just gently brushed away the messy hair from the girl's forehead.
The moment his fingertips touched the delicate skin, he retracted as if he had been burned. A blush that even she herself hadn't noticed crept onto Her Majesty's cheeks.
"Magic mirror, magic mirror," she sighed silently in her heart, "If this continues, who will capture whom?"
This time, Magic Mirror chose silence, as if she was also quietly waiting for the answer in her heart. And the "answer" was curled up next to her, sleeping soundly, with a sweet smile on her lips.
