In the summer of 1997, 6-year-old Lin Xiao was stuffed into a dilapidated rattan box, and her vague childhood was left in the low adobe house of her uncle's house in a remote rural area.
Her parents' "youthful vigor" and "pursuit of a better life" have become a pale footnote to her years of being dependent on others. The uncle is dull, the aunt is strict, and the rejection by the cousin is commonplace. The smell of pigweed mixed with the soot from the stove was her most profound olfactory memory from childhood; the heavy housework and work in the fields filled what should have been a carefree time. Hunger, cold, misunderstanding, and grievance, like cold rain, washed over her young heart over and over again.
However, Lin Xiao has a tenacity in his heart that refuses to admit defeat. Under the dim kerosene lamp, the old borrowed textbooks were her only solace and weapon. She is like a weed trying to survive in the cracks of rocks, grabbing every gleam of knowledge and absorbing it with all her strength. The school became her refuge, and her excellent grades were the fortress of her silent resistance and dignity. She witnessed the short-term warmth and long-term loss brought by her parents' occasional visits, and felt the alienation and shirk of responsibility in the name of family affection.
Intention: In the soil of scarcity and neglect, with knowledge as a blade and perseverance as armor, weeds can break out of the soil and stubbornly live out their own light.
