Plato mentioned the story of Aristophanes in the Symposium. In that story, we humans were originally androgynous, four-armed, four-legged, two-faced "spherical people" who were split in half by Zeus because of our arrogance. Since then, humans have spent their entire lives searching for their lost half to regain wholeness.
