Curator with dark underbelly and abstinence & picture book artist with cold appearance and unknowing heart
The collision of reason and sensibility, the confrontation between rules and freedom - when a perfectionist curator meets a rebellious illustrator, their encounter is destined to be a subversion of art and emotion.
Gu Zhaoli, 21 years old, is recognized as a "theoretical machine" in the art circle. Her exhibition planning is precise down to the angle of each beam of light, the spacing of each painting, and even the walking route of each viewer. She believed that there was an optimal solution to the world - until she met Xu Zhiwei.
Xu Zhiwei, 22 years old, is a rebellious picture book artist famous for his "absurd fairy tales". In her works, the princesses refused the prince's rescue and preferred to sleep among thorns; Cinderella's glass slipper shattered, but the prince picked up a piece of glass that cut his hand. Her paintings are full of broken beauty, but they also make her excluded from the mainstream market.
"Your "Sleeping Beauty" does not conform to narrative logic." Gu Zhaoli frowned and pointed his fingertips on the canvas.
"Logic?" Xu Zhiwei tilted his head, with a provocative smile on his lips, "Then tell me, why does the princess have to be kissed to wake up?"
When Gu Zhaoli approached Xu Zhiwei for the "X element" of the new exhibition, she thought she just needed a highlight that broke the rules. But when she stepped into Xu Zhiwei's chaotic studio and saw the drafts plastered on the wall, the paint splattered on the floor, and the golden section spiral diagram accurate to three decimal places, she realized that the girl herself was an unsolvable equation.
"It's like a tornado has swept over your place." Gu Zhaoli stood at the door, tightening his fingers unconsciously.
"Welcome to the inside of my brain." Xu Zhi smiled and handed her a cup of coffee, with peeling red nail polish stained on the rim.
From the verbal battles in the cafe to rushing out manuscripts under the lights of the late-night studio; from Gu Zhaoli's obsessive-compulsive arrangement of Xu Zhiwei's paint rack to Xu Zhiwei's mischievous scribblings on her notebook - every collision between them is like a battle between reason and sensibility.
"Your heartbeat is racing too fast again." Xu Zhiwei suddenly came closer and tapped Gu Zhaoli's wrist with his fingertips, "Is it because of me this time or because of my painting?"
Gu Zhaoli's breathing stagnated, "... Data error."
And on a rainy night, Gu Zhaoli appeared in front of Xu Zhiwei holding a rainbow umbrella. When Xu Zhiwei made her heartbeat monitoring chart into an exhibition artwork, they finally had to face a proposition that was more difficult to understand than art - between precision and fragmentation, is there the possibility of falling in love?
Purpose: When a perfectionist learns to embrace losing control, that's when her true freedom begins.
