Zhang Muling was originally a closed disciple of the Celestial Master in Longhu Mountain. He was accidentally bitten into a zombie while trying to save his senior brother while traveling down the mountain with his senior brother. He was later voluntarily imprisoned for a hundred years and fed on the Celestial Master's blood every year to restrain the zombie poison in his body. A hundred years later, the thirty-seventh Zhang Tianshi Zhang Xingzhi's training bracelets were supplemented with the Tianshi's blood, allowing Zhang Muling to return to the earthly world. Because Zhang Xingzhi's son was nowhere to be found during a demon-conquering process, his only son was taken away from Longhu Mountain by his wife Xu Anhua. When Zhang Xingzhi was dying, he asked Zhang Muling to bring his grandson Zhang Zhibai back to Longhu Mountain to inherit the Tianshi Taoist tradition. In the process, Zhang Muling and Tiantian Shidao disciples Li Wenzhou, cat demon Miao Tong and others slayed demons in a series of stories.
Purpose: Even though he is a zombie, he still keeps his mind on the right path.
