Basic plot: When phytoconservator Lu Zhiyuan was restoring plant specimens from the Republic of China, he discovered a yellowed diary sandwiched in the specimens, which revealed the forbidden love between wealthy daughter Ye Wanxing and overseas architect Gu Qingrang in 1936. In the dual-line narrative, Zhiyuan gradually developed a subtle relationship with his assistant in the process of restoring the diary, while Wanxing in the historical line guarded their forget-me-not flower field during the war.
Story summary
Modern line: Plant restorer Lu Zhiyuan discovered the diary of the Republic of China with forget-me-not specimens, and worked with his assistant Xia Chuqing to decipher the text. The forbidden love recorded in the diary echoes the subtle emotions in the restoration room.
Historical line: In Shanghai in 1936, Gu Qingrang, an architect who studied abroad, designed a glass flower house for the Ye Mansion, and fell in love with the third daughter of the Ye family who loved plants. The two planted forget-me-nots by the Suzhou River and agreed to use blue petals to convey their thoughts.
A twist of fate: the Battle of Songhu broke out, Gu Qingrang was arranged by his family to go south, and the Ye family was looted by the Japanese invaders. Wan Xing risked his life to guard the flower field, but disappeared during the bombing, leaving only the unsent letter and the blood-stained pocket watch.
The intersection of time and space: Invisible writing appears on the last page of the restored diary, and Xia Chuqing's true identity is revealed. The modern hero and heroine discover forget-me-nots blooming by the Suzhou River, where the love language of history and reality overlaps.
