Dunhuang changed hands several times in history, and due to its unique geographical location, it became an international metropolis of that era. In such a background of frequent wars, the survival challenges faced by the little people there have become the story that this book wants to spread the most. Nearly a hundred years have passed in the middle, which is the life of the two heroines. Taking the lives of little people as the axis, they tell the story of Dunhuang's thoroughfare, prosperity, and tragic resistance.
Several of the characters are from real history. Their stories may come from Dunhuang scrolls, or from the bamboo slips placed in Xuanquan, as well as the only remaining written information in the Mogao Grottoes. They are a shocking glimpse in the vast history, but they are immortal.
