"The Second Flowering Period" tells the story of Su Jin, a 39-year-old urban woman, who uses an unexpectedly discovered mother's diary as a key to start a story of self-salvation and collective awakening when she encounters triple dilemmas of career bottlenecks, marriage crises, and intergenerational conflicts. Su Jin, a middle-level manager of a foreign-funded enterprise, discovered ambiguous messages between her husband and a young intern on the day she failed for promotion. When she tried to find emotional sustenance from her daughter, she became alienated from her adolescent daughter due to conflicting educational concepts. The diary left by her mother accidentally discovered in the attic reveals the similar fate cycle of three generations of women. With the support of female allies such as psychological counselor Gu Man, divorced bestie Lin Xia, and entrepreneurial partner Cheng Fei, Su Jin broke free from the body of the "perfect wife" and led a community of middle-aged women to launch the "Flower Restart Plan" to tear open the gaps in workplace discrimination, motherhood kidnapping and social prejudice, and finally established a women's mutual aid and growth center in the community to achieve intergenerational trauma healing and group value reconstruction.
Purpose: Through the intertwining fate of three generations of women, it reveals the compression of women's life cycles by social disciplines, explores the possibility of middle-aged women reconstructing their self-worth between family responsibilities and social expectations, and advocates a vitality aesthetic that breaks age anxiety.
