The September sun shines in through the classroom windows, casting a mottled light and shadow on Lin Xia's desk. She was spinning her pen boredly, hearing the voice of the head teacher introducing new classmates.

There was sparse applause. Lin Xia raised her head and glanced around the classroom, finally settling on the window seat. There was a boy sitting there, his head lowered, his long fingers writing something quickly on a notebook, indifferent to everything around him.
