In the late-autumn "A Wrinkle in Time" thrift store, Chen Zhixu, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, and Qian Jinshu, the granddaughter of the store owner Qian Yusen, met over a bronze bookmark. Since then, the second-hand shop has become a secret base. They explore time and each other among old things.
In the warm yellow halo of the "A Wrinkle in Time" thrift store, Qian Jinshu is a restorer and a prisoner who creates scars for himself. She built a wall with turtlenecks and silence, but secretly described the appearance of love every night. Until Chen Zhixu, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, broke in with a sketchbook while collecting photos and used a paintbrush to pry open her closed shell. He drew her lowered eyelashes when she was repairing an old tea set, calling it "the moment when a butterfly landed on the ruins"; he taught her to use acrylic to paint cornflowers on burn scars, saying "scars are the secret passage to the heart." But when he tried to get closer, she curled up her softness into a ring of thorns like a frightened hedgehog.
When Chen Zhixu's work "Fold Lover" caused a sensation, Qian Jinshu saw the phantom of his childhood alcoholic mother in the spotlight. She chose to withdraw when love was at its hottest, leaving behind an unrepaired Victoria hourglass and the phrase "some wounds are destined to never heal." Three years later, when Chen Zhixu's installation art "Reverse Eclosion" was exhibited at the art museum, Qian Jinshu stood in front of the cocoon-shaped installation with countless hanging copper thorns, and finally understood: love is not a magic that heals scars, but teaches you the courage to live with scars. The thorns she thought would sting the one she loved turned out to be inverted feathers that could be stretched into wings just for a hug.
This is a story about brokenness and repair, escape and reunion. In the folds of time in the junk shop, in the cold light of the art gallery, love is like a tree growing in reverse, turning scars into annual rings, and transforming cowardice into light.
