1. This book is a prequel to "Eight Gates". The protagonist was born in the early to middle period of the Mage Era. 2. Regarding the motivation for opening this book. "Eight Gates" is quite long to write, but if the normal plot line is pushed to the end of Chris's story, there will still be a lot of holes to fill in.
