I remember that on the night of self-study on the third day of the 2012 Lunar New Year, my father and I watched the end of The Legend of Zhen Huan in front of the TV series. The plot was about the night when Yi Xiu and the emperor said goodbye:
"A pure heart is kind, and a kind heart is beautiful. Even if you grow old, it will be thousands more than you."
Yixiu shed tears on the spot as she recalled the hall full of gods and Buddhas, losing herself for an unworthy love. She finally said helplessly, "Do you think your sister loves you? Do you think Concubine Xi really loves you?"
When I was a kid, I just watched it for fun and never thought about it deeply.
When I was nearly thirty, when I read "The Legend of Zhen Huan" again, I would think:
Is Chun Yuan really a purely good person? What's the story between Yi Xiu and Chun Yuan?
The success of "The Legend of Zhen Huan" lies in the versatility of each character. In my heart, Yi Xiu has never been a pure bad guy. All women are tragedies under the constraints of imperial power.
In the TV series, one of the few moments where she revealed her true feelings was when she described the scene in which she held her child in the rain and walked towards a temple full of gods and Buddhas. At that moment, I seemed to feel the softness buried deep in her heart through a few words. What did she go through before she chose the last path of no return?
Was she once kind and gentle, and did she yearn for sisterly love?
The misfortunes in the world never stop, they are all ordinary.
Maybe something like this happens to everyone equally.
So twelve years later, I used my own imagination to continue writing the story of her and Yi Xiu through Chun Yuan's perspective, so that viewers can better understand the tragic character in my heart - Yi Xiu.
At the same time, it pays tribute to my favorite classic drama "The Legend of Zhen Huan".
