The protagonist Li Shen, through dreams, time-traveled his soul into the body of Liu Yuniang, Queen Zhuangzong of the Later Tang Dynasty. Time and again, he witnessed Liu Yuniang's transformation from a helpless orphan to a ruthless queen. At the same time, he became Liu Yuniang's only friend and witnessed the love between Liu Yuniang and Zhuang Zong's younger brother Li Cunwo.
Gu Yanhua, a woman who was very accomplished in dance, gave up the opportunity to further her studies in order to support her boyfriend's studies abroad and chose to stay at the university as a teacher. But her boyfriend Xu Zhipeng met another woman, Fu Qinqin, abroad, and fell deeply in love with her.
