I often stayed up late, suffered from insomnia, my parents divorced, and I moved around to various relatives' houses. I met a "friend" in the new semester who said she was not human.
"If I could help you realize one wish, what would it be?" She turned to look at me and said seriously.
"Won a million dollars in the lottery!" I joked, "Are you the kind of elf who helps people realize their wishes?"
