During a pursuit, Gary, as the commander, killed the fleeing suspect while subduing him. In order to obtain clues about the suspect, Gary extracted the suspect's consciousness, but unexpectedly discovered that the suspect's identity was an old friend he had interacted with: Saw Sterling. In order to get more information, Gary decided to extract the other party's memory and review clues about him.
Gary Bird also had his own selfish motives for this. He wanted to know why Thor Sterling, who was once his classmate and was supposed to have a promising future, became what he is now.
