"Hongye Daily" recorded in 1941: Shen Linglan, born in the 24th year of Guangxu's reign, was a son of the Shen family in Nandu. His ancestor was the former general Shen Yan; his father Shen Qing was the governor of Nanjiang. Lan studied in the Shen family private school when he was young, entered a Western-style school at the age of ten, and studied in Europe at the age of sixteen. At the age of twenty-three, he returned to China to engage in social and public affairs, trying to turn the tide of the Nancheng epidemic. At the age of thirty-three, he engaged in patriotic movements and was assassinated by rebels. He has disappeared. There has been no news for more than ten years and he is believed to have died. Mr. Shen worked conscientiously throughout his life, loved charity, saved people in dangerous situations, and never wavered from his innocence. I feel sorry for Duke Shen, so I would like to publish this in the newspaper to express my condolences.
