In the sixth year of the Republic of China, Duan Xiaoshan fled from his hometown to Shanghai.
He went to live with his aunt who was a servant in Shao Mansion.
The aunt knelt at Mrs. Shao's feet and told her tearfully how pitiful Duan Xiaoshan was.
I beg you, madam, to take him in. I don't ask for anything else, just give him food to eat.
Duan Xiaoshan lowered his head. In the middle of winter, he was wearing a rotten cotton-padded jacket and a pair of leaky trousers.
The cotton-padded jacket was given to him by refugees who had come all the way to beg for food, and it smelled of salty sourness.
The aunt tugged at him and said, "Why don't you thank me soon, madam!"
Duan Xiaoshan looked at his exposed feet, dripping with mud and smelly water, and couldn't lift his head.
"Mom, why do you want to keep a beggar at home? It stinks."
A young and clean voice pierced Duan Xiaoshan's heart like a sharp knife.
He raised his head and saw a clean and beautiful young man.
"Call the young master!" His aunt winked at him.
Duan Xiaoshan unconsciously arranged his tattered cotton-padded jacket and said in a low voice: "... Young Master."
This name lasts a lifetime.
