This is a story of struggle and love between two generations of two families for more than half a century. The story takes place during the great social changes from the early 1960s to the beginning of this century. The Xia family and the Zhang family are both textile people. Xia Shichun was a technical backbone of the Provincial Textile Department. He was found dead in the line of duty after a shipwreck on a foreign academic exchange trip. His wife, Xiang Shuxian, and Xia Shichun, a former cotton mill owner who had been jointly owned by the public and private companies, were preparing to get married in 2001. Xia Shichun came back. Zhang Zinian went to the mountains to escape his feelings. Xia Shichun took his wife and children to Zhanjiatun and met Zhang Zinian. The era of great development of chemical fiber has arrived. Xia Shichun was invited to participate in the chemical fiber synthesis project with great ambition, but died of irritation due to being unable to mobilize. The Xia family stayed in Zhanjiatun forever. Zhang's wife died of poisoning. This matter was related to the Xia family and the captain's family. Xiang Shuxian spared no effort to find out the truth. Xiang Shuxian has seven children. The eldest daughter, Ruo Qiu, is beautiful and born for art, but has a weak character. The second daughter Ruodong has very different personalities from her elder sister. The mother then whipped her hard, thinking that she could sacrifice her feelings for other children. Xiang Shuxian also gave great maternal love to the two goddaughters of Zhanjiatun widow Xiao Guanzi and the dementia daughter Zhan Xiuxiu, which changed them.
