A stone thrown into a lake can create ripples, but what about life? The story shows many little people constantly awakening and fighting against their fate in the midst of hardships. The protagonist Yu Pingping is a poor girl at the bottom of the class. She was born in a rural area in the 1980s. During the famine years, she encountered many selfish and unsympathetic people. Facing the suffering of those around her, she was often tormented by her kind but incompetent nature. However, she was brave and strong. Even if she was not happy, she still silently fought against the world, like a bamboo shoot emerging from the ground.
