High-Functioning Depression (HFD) refers to an individual who is able to maintain a certain level of functioning and performance in daily life despite suffering from depressive symptoms. This type of depression may not be as obvious as major depression, and patients may function relatively normally at work, school, and social activities, but suffer from persistent feelings of sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness.
