The issues mentioned in this article actually explained my initial doubts. In many novels, prestigious schools are always written about, but as a result, the student atmosphere does not look like a gathering of people who study hard together, but rather like a concentration camp where rumors and gossips come and go. Neither the high school nor Fudan University that I attended was top of the list for high school or undergraduate studies. My experience was that apart from studying, other campus life was quite ordinary. Any conflicts among roommates were limited to someone staying up late and affecting their sleep, or someone eating too smelly food. I had never experienced any of the gossipy love and hate that is well-known in the entire department (let alone the entire school).
