Synopsis:
After entering Demon Tower, every player gets a chance to draw a companion. The quality of their starting companion determines how strong they’ll be, and Xiao Jin never expected to draw an F-rank, sickly tabby cat right from the start.
He: “…”
What a disastrous start!
You expect me to take care of a sick little cat and struggle to survive in Demon Tower, where ghosts and monsters are everywhere?
Seeing his reaction, the System quickly reassured him. “Don’t worry, Host. It comes with two starting skills, Unwavering Devotion and Stealth. That’s pretty good! Most players start with F-rank cards. Just keep drawing cards for it and improve your companion’s quality. You might get a pleasant surprise later! After all, its starting trait of unwavering devotion to you won’t change. Your teammates might betray you, but your little cat never will! It’s your loyal companion!”
He: “…”
That does make a bit of sense.
So Xiao Jin kept drawing cards and poured every last point into the little cat.
The good news: the cat leveled up.
The bad news: it seemed to have leveled up in a very different direction from what he’d imagined.
A young man with cat ears pressed close to him, one arm firmly around his waist and his tail wrapped tightly around Xiao Jin’s ankle. His eyes shimmered with affection, making him impossible to refuse. “A-Jin, I’m scared if you don’t sleep with me. You used to hold me while we slept. Are you tired of me now?”
Xiao Jin stared at the “little kitty,” who was bigger and taller than he was, and fell into deep thought.
Could it be that you used to be a little kitty, but now you’re taking up half my bed and insisting on holding me all night? It’s hot!
But faced with the “little cat’s” pitiful expression, he couldn’t bring himself to say no.
That is, until he saw his “soft and helpless” little cat kick a teammate who’d teased Xiao Jin right off a cliff. The man turned around, eyes cold as ice, and met Xiao Jin’s gaze. The next second, the “little cat” looked utterly stricken and threw himself into Xiao Jin’s arms, burying his face in the crook of his neck and greedily breathing in his scent.
“A-Jin, he was picking on me just now. I only hit back by accident. You believe me, right?” the little cat said, aggrieved.
Xiao Jin nodded along. “Right, right. That guy with two broken legs was picking on you.”
The little cat: “…”
The next second, his eyes filled with affection. “A-Jin, don’t you believe me?”
“No, I…”
Before he could finish, warm lips sealed his words away.
The man’s brows were sharp as a sword, and his eyes blazed. His former helplessness was gone. “If I don’t want to hear it, A-Jin, you’re not allowed to say it.”
