This is my work four years ago, completed between 2006 and 2007. Not mature, but worth remembering.
According to the historical facts in Silm's background material, it is actually difficult for these Noldor princes to have similar childhoods. Maedhros, the "eldest grandson of the eldest son," is actually not much younger than his second uncle, so Maedhros must have been an adult when Fingon was born. This article ignores this fact and makes the friendship between the two princes begin in childhood (anyway, there is very little explanation in Silm, this part is blank, I just love to make it up).
