To commemorate and record my grandfather, other elders, and that era of rapid change and uncertainty.
My grandfather came from a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in Northeast China. He was born in the late Qing Dynasty and grew up in the Republic of China. He practiced medicine and martial arts to save the country. He also participated in the Anti-Japanese Revolutionary Army when assisting others. He finally died of regret in the Special Movement.
Other elders in the family have gone through changing times: the "landlord" who fainted from hunger on the carriage, the "lady landlord" who only had a pair of cotton pants, the aunt who "came out" from time to time, the farmer uncle who was studying the "Tui Bei Tu" in the village, etc.
