Introduction
In the winter when I was 35 years old, I was teaching literary studies at the University of Tromso in Norway. After class, a student asked me who the most important person in my life was.
I pushed open the classroom door, and the past was whizzed in by the cold Arctic wind and snow.
Fyodor, Osamu Dazai, Gogol--these three people.
There is no spectacular love story between me and them, no passionate passion that lingers until death.
We met casually and talked about literature together a few times.
Since then, my ghost has been traveling in the world for more than ten years. Countless people have passed by me, but they are still the only ones who have seen my gray soul in the crowd.
